MEDSIL intergastric balloon

Medsil Intragastric Balloon is a weight loss system that uses a gastric balloon that takes up space in the stomach. The balloon is placed in the stomach through the mouth using a minimal invasive endoscopic procedure while the patient is under mild sedation. When the balloon is in place the balloon is filled with saline, as it expands into a spherical shape. The balloon can be filled with different amounts of salt water (400 to 700 ml) depending on the amount that best suits the patient’s stomach size.

How does it work?

Medsil Intragastric Balloon takes up space in the stomach to help patients lose weight. The balloon is temporary and should be removed after 6 months.

When is it used?

It is used for obese adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or more who have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise. The method should be used while the patient follows a diet and exercise plan, monitored by a doctor.

About the Medsil balloon

The Medsil balloon works the same way as its competing alternative.
In 2016 15.000 Medsil balloons were used world wide – among other things more than 1.000 German private patients had the gastric balloon placed.

If the Medsil Intragastric Balloon does not seem like the right option for you, we also provide other balloons such as the Elispe Swallow Capsule, the Orbera Intragastric Balloon, or the Spatz Gastric Balloon.
